Collection: Substrates
Substrates are the foundation of every successful cultivation. They provide support to plants, influence root development, water retention, air access, and nutrient uptake. If the substrate is unsuitable, growth can quickly slow down, roots develop poorly, the soil becomes too compact, or it retains too much or too little moisture.
This category includes various bases for indoor cultivation of plants, herbs, seedlings, microgreens, houseplants, and hydroponics. These are quality potting soil, coco coir substrates, light mixes for seedlings, substrates for microgreens, clay pebbles, perlite, vermiculite, aeration additives, and other materials that help create better conditions for healthy growth.
When choosing soil or a substrate, it's important to consider what you are growing, how often you water, what system you are using, and how much control you want over nutrients. Classic soil is suitable for simple home growing, coco coir allows for more control over feeding and watering, clay pebbles are often used in hydroponics, and lighter substrates are suitable for growing seedlings and microgreens.
A good substrate must provide roots with enough air while retaining the right amount of moisture. Overly compacted soil can lead to waterlogging and root problems, while a too dry or too airy substrate may require more frequent watering.
